We got all the recording done for this week done last night, and we’re simply in the process of encoding everything correctly. We now have to go through 2 steps of encoding to get the finished product on the gamefire page, and with 2 video shows this week (w00t!) everything is taking longer than normal.
So here’s the deal. From now on shows will be out on Tuesday for the public (Monday for subscribers). Shows will be available in High Quality for EVERYONE, with the caveat being that non-subscribers will not be able to download them, and will have to watch them in an embedded player that has small unobtrusive advertisements (and i mean you see it for 5 seconds, then it’s gone for the rest of the show). Subscribers will be able to download the show with no ads. Also, ALL the old shows will be available to everyone in this new format.
So, with that having been said, I’m trying to get some part of the shows uploaded today. Oh, and did i mention that gamefire.com is up and is where all the new shows will be? So get over there and check it out! Give us feedback!

July 31, 2007 at 1:18 am
So here’s the deal. From now on shows will be out on Tuesday for the public (Monday for subscribers)

July 31, 2007 at 1:27 am

July 31, 2007 at 2:23 am
well i with fileplanet so ill get it eventually
July 31, 2007 at 3:26 am
that sucks. why cant we be able to download a lower quality version. i hate watching embedded videos.
July 31, 2007 at 3:44 am
Gamefire.com looks good.
I like the idea for the subscription. How much is it going to be though, and how are you going to be charging for it? (Monthly, yearly, one time life time membership?)
July 31, 2007 at 4:00 am
From my understanding it is a $5 fee charged monthly.
July 31, 2007 at 4:39 am
Josh: they probably WILL announce the winners on the audio show “also” but the issue was probably that the Beta is available for download in a few hours and probably wanted people to get equal access to the Beta straight away when its available (about 10 hours time I think).
July 31, 2007 at 6:25 am
no download for non-sibscribers. no beta key either. this suks. i think here ends my adventure with ToH. I only hope that one of subscribers will put the shows on one of torrent sites.
July 31, 2007 at 6:55 am
i also know and i will tell where are the 50 keys. why not? the contest is on Buggo blog site here:
http://www.relicrank.com/bloggo/2007/07/30/last-chance-for-beta-keys/
July 31, 2007 at 7:05 am
I can confirm that the ToH contest winners have been sent their emails.
July 31, 2007 at 7:20 am
If the “low-res” version of the show will not be available for download, as it always has been, then I will not be returning to ToH. I think the idea of the embedded video is lame. Just leave the damn ads at the beginning and end and allow it to be downloaded. Will the resolution be the same on the embedded video? Will it go full-screen?
This will be a BAD move, if you still decide to do it that way. I’m sure you will lose a lot of fans because of this “switch”.
July 31, 2007 at 7:24 am
Exactly, I totally agree with Rick.
July 31, 2007 at 7:27 am
Even though I plan on subscribing I agree this change probably isn’t the best idea. When you first pitched the idea of the subscribing feature you claimed that if you didn’t want to subscribe Tales of Heroes as we know it wouldn’t change. This would seem to contradict that. Just use the original idea of lo-res for non-subscribers.
July 31, 2007 at 7:32 am
at the moment, the embedded video if far from fullscreen, so it is a real setback. You get the improved quality, but it is sized down so far it is useless.
And besided that, it is not realy a restriction, since the file will be availible in your temp internet files so you can still “download” it. It is more like irritating the crap out of us and making it just a bit more difficult to enjoy the show. That’s also a way to make people pay..
I dont mind giving subscribers an extra show, the show a day earlies or something else extra, but dont start stripping the default package.
July 31, 2007 at 8:01 am
Whoa whoa whoa, hold on a minute. I was going to subscribe but then I read that non subscribers can’t download the video and I simply hate that crap. That’s like quicktime and we all know how much quicktime blows. You are going backwards here boys. I would want to make things and easy going for my fans as possible and that means the ability to download and watch the replay at any time they want. This whole thing sounds like an idea from bill gates and I just don’t like it.
July 31, 2007 at 8:34 am
It does seem like a reversal of previous promises.
I know you have to make the subscription idea attractive but it should be based on additional content for subscribers and not on removing current content for non-subscribers.
One idea I had was that where you have guest interviews, often the interviews have to be cut back to fit in the slot or you need to cut them short while they are being recorded. What you could do is present the longer “extended” version of the interview (compared to the one included with the program) as a subscriber-only download.
July 31, 2007 at 9:23 am
I’m just very disapointed. As it is now, even if you started offering enough of stuff worth subscribing, I still wouldn’t do it. Because I just don’t support these kind of things. :/
July 31, 2007 at 10:00 am
well its sad you dont support these kinds of things thats your own lose really.
July 31, 2007 at 10:24 am
I’m a bit confused. What nickname should I send to the lad with the email?
July 31, 2007 at 11:45 am
Subscribe system :/
Anyway, if you say gamefire.com is online why don’t you post this on that site then?
makes more sense to me to update that site instead of this site…
Gl with it all ! (and I hope I can keep following the shows without subscribing)

bah i dont know what you guys are whining about. i would like download too, but honestly its not that important. so let it be stream, i just hope its full screen. remember, they still doing this in their own time and for free so dont complain. subscription is jsut there so they can make it worth it. whoever will want benefits will subscribe, but you dont have to. comments like “im not watching your show anymore” or “im soooooo dissapointed” are sad, what the hell guys, get real
July 31, 2007 at 1:59 pm
this will just result in that they will be uploaded on youtube.
i know i will subscribe, the subscription probly isnt very high and deffo worth it for the quality show
Keep on the good work Adamn & David
July 31, 2007 at 2:04 pm
The audio show will still be downloadable right? I don’t really mind any way becasue im gonna subscribe.
July 31, 2007 at 2:07 pm
Ziggy?
How the hell did you get out of the big brother uk house?
on a separate note i was going to subscribe but seeing as i didn’t get a beta key i’m not sure i’ll bother
yea i know, i’m a pompous Ass
looking forward to the show though lol
July 31, 2007 at 2:09 pm
I realize the amount of work you guys put into this show, and I truly appreciate it. So much so that I WILL become a paid subscriber. However, I must say that I agree with many that have posted so far.
I thought that the idea of the non-subscribers being able to download the low rez version with the paying ones getting a high rez was the best. The main reason I started watching toh was beacause I could bring it with me on my laptop and watch it at my cottage. It’s a shame that only those who pay will still be able to do so…
Is it that you only have time to encode it once ?
July 31, 2007 at 2:39 pm
Oh god please dont go to straight embeded!!!! I can’t watch stupid embeded on my craptastic con, and Id rather have the size and quality that you had b4 so I can let it download overnight!
Just make it like the add’s play before the download starts! o noooos this is bad news for TOH…
July 31, 2007 at 3:35 pm
Re: Beta Keys – I sent out an email to the winners with a request form buggo to email her with their info and she’ll send them keys (sent this email out yesterday).
Re: Full-Screen – There is a full screen option in the player, it’s just not functioning correctly at the moment. We’ll get it working though, no worries
Re: Downloads – The problem is that with our current ad system, it’s tied to the player, so we can’t simply allow people to download with ads. Once we implement the full screen setting, you guys will be able to view it like you always have, the only difference is it’s in a streaming window rather than downloaded. And if downloads mean that much to you, we’re offering that for real cheap.
Remember, I’m trying to make a living out of this, that’s what gamefire is. We can’t give anything out for “free” anymore. I even had a big argument with my gamefire business partner over the downloads thing. I wanted to preserve downloads, but in the end his viewpoint won out. We’re currently paying out of our own pocket for the bandwidth these videos cost, which is a lot of money. This means we need to make money in order to keep making these shows for you guys.
If you still have some issues with the system send me an email and we’ll have a chat: talesof@gamefire.com

I cant see the flash player in firefox
and have to use IE instead…
July 31, 2007 at 4:02 pm
I can see it just fine – get the latest firefox? Latest flash?
July 31, 2007 at 4:14 pm
player works fine for me in firefox.
Bridger, I just send you an email from the adres i use here as well, let me know if you got it, this account tends to do strange things every now and than
July 31, 2007 at 5:36 pm
Adblock Plus will block the video in firefox. I needed to manually allow a few objects to get it playing.
July 31, 2007 at 5:38 pm
Appreciate all your hard work Bridger and enjoy the shows (yes even the suckfest of the extra vid last week thanks to the two of yours commentary) so look forward to the sub system in place.
August 1, 2007 at 1:19 am
@spadeHead
so theres a guy named ziggy in bb uk? hah. if i were there id probably run out of that house just to play of beta. just 1 more hour of download, cant waitt
i gues we should all switch to gamefire.com, this site wont be up much longer i assume
August 1, 2007 at 4:34 pm
I have a question regarding the subscription and gamefire stuff.
Is the intention behind it to cover the costs incurred by you and Vitensby (entirely reasonable) or to make profits?
