wowa wee wa that was so fast, filefront FTW !!! thanks Xinterp πŸ™‚

  17. Xinterp says:

I wanted this episode as the breaking point in which I would convince some of my friends to start playing the game. But I felt as if you guys really picked apart Company of Heroes – complaining about as many bugs as you can point out, bringing up past/present balance issues, and ending the show with sarcastic revisions you would wanted to see in the upcoming patch. I think you guys went slightly overboard with the complaints in this Video Replay Review. and oh god did the AIM and Windows sounds freak me out, I thought I was using Windows XP again! lol

But, although I was a bit disappointed with all that..
I must say, I did love Bridger’s singing. Great voice! πŸ™‚

  18. Xinterp says:

And, Thank you very much for covering our replay. πŸ™‚

  19. Xinterp says:

    *** SPOILER ALERT (Possibly) ***

I think the key lesson here was Axis Tank Veterancy
and using the StuH to break through the tank traps.

  20. Josh says:

    Will we ever see a game between bridger and his co host thet errible vitesbee { sorry if i wrote your name wrong.}

  21. Josh says:

I think i would be great?

  22. Xinterp says:

Wow, I just realized you can even stream the video from FileFront. That’s awesome.

  23. peacknic says:

Can someone pls link to the rec file? tia.

  24. Rogers says:

Thanks so much for doing this guys. It was a great watch. I wish you guys would
have strayed away from bugs and such talk and kept it for the audio but I understand
it happens. Bridger didnt mention my lvl 1 production, I’m pretty sure thats a TOH
    first. Thanks again guys.

  25. Jerry says:

can someone post the COH replay file please?
    Thx

  26. subcrexis says:

wooo amazing game since TOH20 (Dayglo vs patoso) which featured a HQ destroyed and rebuilt and not to mention a great comeback from the Allies. Some tank veterancies for the axis would be a great turning tide of the battle for Xinterp; or KCH maybe? eheheh anyway, gg rogers, gg xinterp πŸ™‚

  27. Bridger says:

level 1 supply depot you mean?

  28. TheGrayFox says:

Happy B-day Bridger. Best wishes, and many more ToH’s in the future.

  29. Rogers says:

yep level one supply upgrade πŸ™‚

  30. Xinterp says:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIDGER! πŸ˜€

  31. DukeIt says:

    Happy Bday

  32. EnglishMuffin says:

Great show as always guys, but bridger, you are killing me with the windows sounds, I mean holy crap. Every 5 minutes something is finishing downloading or someone joins aim or leaves aim , microsoft paperclip kills mozilla firefox. This is an internet podcast, not a soundboard; get it together!

And where is the parrot and the girlfriend sneezing. You switched one set of sounds for another. The parrot and girlfriend were funny, the microsoft sounds make we want to slap bill gates.

  33. Poeta says:

nice show guys, great game between the SC mods, a real armwrestle

  34. RedDevil says:

Nice game. There did seam to be a bit to much emphasis on bug ranting. Pointing them out is good though, but don’t go overboard. Oh, and whoever is actually making the video (Bridger I think). Try to make a habit of keeping the FOW off as much as possible. I few times when there was a lull in battle, I was screaming at the screen to turn the FOW off so I could see what the Axis where doing to consolidate the middle. =P

But, another fantastic show for us fans!

Oh BTW, did anyone notice that at about the 45minute mark, the retreating Pershing ran over all the tank traps near the Allied base, and didn’t slow down one bit. It was going in reverse to boot, but still motored through at full spead. Reverse back to when the Tiger finally rolled through the tank traps sealing the Axis bridge off, and you see the Tiger slow to a crawl while crushing. This is what’s supposed to happen. I guess another bug that hurts the Axis.

  35. peaceknic says:

“I few times when there was a lull in battle, I was screaming at the screen to turn the FOW off so I could see what the Axis where doing to consolidate the middle. =P”

Which is exactly why I like having the .rec file: so I can watch the replay in all it’s glory and focus on what I want while Bridger and Vits provide their expert commentary. IMHO it’s a bit more engaging than just watching a wmv file anyway…..and the resolution is better to boot.

So this is really just another request for the rec file. Please.
    Pretty please.
I’ve looked on gamereplays and it doesn’t seem to be there so can someone help a brother out?

  36. TsN|Bridger says:

I like to be able to see what it’s like to be in the players shoes, what he is seeing at the time!

Sounds will be fixed though πŸ˜›

  37. thoman says:

Great show! Thanks a lot for keeping u the good work πŸ™‚

But i though as well that the ranting about the bugs went overboard a bit. It is ok to do it in the audio part, since its kinda the theory bit of the show. But the video replays are what gets out of the “inside” COH community the most. Whenever i want to convince a friend about CoH or whenever a person new to the game asks in the forums about what game to get or about help with his gameplay, we constantly refer and link to the video replays. So it would be cool if it could be a more positive take on the action in the video part. Especially since you read and hear about the bugs everywhere all the time in the forums and in game already.
Seems to me that theres so much whining people sometimes for get how cool this game actually is. Would be cool if you could counter that pessimist movement every now and then in the video replays. πŸ™‚

  38. pHk says:

    Thanks for seeding guys!

  39. Eric says:

Great replay with hilarious commentary ! Great show guys. Was Bridger singing a first ?

  40. Greendale.tk says:

    Tales of Heroes

Even if you’re only remotely interested in RTS games, grab the latest episode of tales of heroes. It’s a replay of a very long and close game of Company of Heroes with very entertaining and sometimes hilarious commentary by Bridger and Vite…

  41. Deionarra says:

I think some of you guys are being a bit over critical about the windows sounds and the comments about bugs. While the bug remarks may not make it the best episode to use as an introduction for new players to the game I personally found it highly entertaining.

I thought this showed off the game as being really cool even despite all the talk of bugs.

The game was great but the commentary was even better, best episode so far that I’ve listened to, good job guys! πŸ™‚

  42. peaceknic says:

Thx for the replay link! Keep up the good work guys,

  43. Batt!tz says:

    that was an amazing replay.
    bridge, i love you.

  44. RedDevil says:

Yes, a great episode again. I understand that you want to get into the players shoes, but maybe let Vitensby make the recordings then? We don’t have control of the camera, so often times the only way we get a feel for what’s going on is by watching the minimap. FOW for quick periods to emphasis some point in the commentary maybe? I mean commenting on what’s happening on both sides rather sitting in FOW might be better for newer players trying to learn the ropes?

Especially when you’re occupied with finding Noa’s picture when there’s a battle raging on by the Allied bridge πŸ˜‰

Sorry that this sounds so critical, I really do love the show! It’s just a suggestion and I can happily live with grabbing the .rec file while listening to the audio. You guys are great!

    Cheers!

  45. Dom_0.IRL says:

A favourite moment for the show hmm.
If you could combine all the times bridger has called something overpowered and play them together.

That would be a combination of my favourite moments.

  46. EnglishMuffin says:

I support your bug ranting bridger. Ignoring things won’t make them go away, unless you are president bush. We need more bug ranting. I too am pretty pissed with the support of the game. Maybe give them one more month and if they have not fixed anything we can all boycott opposing fronts. Cause if they don’t do anything with the game till OF comes out, I mean come on…

  47. Dr_Funkenstein says:

Whoever the c83-254-245-26.bredband.comhem.se:35220 is in Sweden, thanks for seeding at 365kbps!!!!

  48. Spadehead says:

    Great show bridger and vit

    great game Xin and rog

    cheers from the UK

  49. Spadehead says:

    boycott opposing fronts!?!??!

    no fkn chance mate :p

  50. TsN|Bridger says:

Considering OF will probably have most of the fixes we are looking for (arranged automatch ftw!) i’d say boycotting it would hurt us more than help πŸ˜›

  51. bodybag2224 says:

This was the funniest fuckin’ show!!!!!!!!!! I could not not laugh during this game!!!!

Pak 38 shoots* Tank passenger “What was that?!?!” Tank Driver: “Pak 38…” Tank Passenger: “ISN’T THAT AN ANTI TANK GUN!?!?!?!?!” Tank Driver” Yeah, but we’re in a tank, don’t worry about it”. LMFAO!!!!!!!!!@#!@$#&$!@*&*&$!(*!!!!

  52. Spadehead says:

hehe yea that was highly amusing

  53. CHAINS says:

Great replay! Absolutely one of the best I’ve ever seen on ToH πŸ˜€

  54. Barbed Wire says:

    Hello bridger.
I hate you because you made them fix me, I’ll never have barbs again!
Life without kids (barbs) is like being a sandbag trying to stop an M10, You get run over and the people you are protecting die.
Somebody should make a COH metaphor forum somewhere….
    Barbed Wire

    P.S. Don’t get fixed, it’s bad

  55. z1ggy says:

there was alot of talk about bugs in this video, doesnt realy fit in there, but on the other hand, they are right. there is still tons of bugs, quite big ones which are very obvious and same can be said about balance issues. and i agree, just fix this obvious issues already relic, wth….

  56. Tico303 says:

    Hi folks!

Love the show, it was really funny. And the game was not played perfectly, so there was a lot to comment on (e.g. as Vitensby the Terrible noticed: no engineer schrek-force).

Also I wanted you to thank you for the great grid keys, although I had to modify it for QWERTZ which was painfull due to a bad case of RTFM (ModStudio always crashed πŸ˜‰

    Ciao,

    Tico

  57. Chadd says:

Please get the site relaunched…this wordpress is killing me. Great show and commentary as always. I look forward to the next show.

  58. Jokee says:

hmm no more InExplorer movies??? demn it…

  59. Daz says:

Good replay, hopefully the site will be up soon. Only watched this vid cos someone posting a streaming link.

oh and the ‘Sherman tickler’ cracked me up lol

  60. TsN|Bridger says:

Yeah, i’m working on it guys, i’ll do my best!

  61. EnglishMuffin says:

Honestly this reminds me of EA. Let’s take a look at battlefield 2. It was buggy as hell and the support was a bit worse than relic. So they released an expansion and the exact same things were there. Now I’m not saying that OF will not fix the current issues, but to not have the current stuff addressed is bullshit. I know they need to make money so wanting to sell the expansion would make more money than patching a game but depending on how well you support a game determines if the consumer buys your next product. Most people forget that the consumer really has the power here. I’m just trying to figure out if relic is incompetent or stupid. Either way I’m not sure that I want to buy another game from them at this point.

  62. Chadd says:

There are bugs in the game, but I don’t think its anywhere near EA’s level of bugs and its “lets put out a new game that should have been an expansion (ahem Battlefield Vietnam)” strategy. I do have more faith in Relic than EA, but time will tell whether OF is that or not. I do agree that the current games bugs, particularly ones that should not have made it through testing, should be fixed.

The more important error with COH is not the gameplay bugs, its the online multiplayer system. I have had it not record matches, take forever to find a match, and its not the most intuitive system to use. I read somewhere they contracted this out to a third party, they should evaluate a new third party for OF. Having used xbox live and the Halo 2 matchmaking in particular, online play in a ranking and non-ranked system should be much better (even with a much smaller fan base).

  63. thoman says:

    shut up

  64. Chadd says:

Ah such a witty comment from Thoman. For the record, I do enjoy COH and it has restored my faith in RTS games. However, there are always things that can and should be better.

P.S. I am just rattling your cage about the site Bridger…good luck and can’t wait to get everything back online.

  65. Erol says:

This episode was great, maybe the most entertaining one!

What I like about that fow/windows sounds/.. is that you get the feeling that this is for fun, and thatΒ΄s the cool about it. The best match would be kinda boring if thereΒ΄s always the same camera and bridger and vittensby would give their job to a news-moderator ^^

This ranting is not bad, too. They are talking about things happening, not just theory – so you have the things they really are, and not like some guy on a forum thinks they are.

    Thanks for thos episode!

  66. thoman says:

    “shut up”

“Ah such a witty comment from Thoman….”

i was talking to English muffin πŸ™‚ sorry. you slipped your answer in between without me noticing

  67. EnglishMuffin says:

Remember thoman, pretending the problems are not there won’t make them go away, unless you are president bush.

  68. Chadd says:

    @thoman

Well then negative opinion of you retracted…carry on.

  69. TsN|Bridger says:

I’m going to do a rant on the game industry and the way it works on the next show, cause it’s clear from some people’s comments (i’m looking at you english muffin) that they don’t understand it.

  70. nmd says:

Bridger, a small note about checking which company/doctrine the player has chosen. You don’t have to wait for any ability icons to appear. If you don’t have any units selected (by pressing Esc), the company/doctrine logo can be seen in place of the unit picture, if there is one chosen.

  71. TsN|Bridger says:

You know i’ve looked for that but for the life of me havn’t seen it yet, i must not be looking in the right place.

  72. Ewy says:

Yay, rant! But seriously how many of CoH’s bugs are actually game breaking? i’d say maybe one at most, that being the loading bug (yes i changed my settings…). Let’s look at BF2, a game which i have put over 300 hours into. Here’s a list of problems:

-Fix the F-35B USMC fighter jet. Lots of research on Total BF2 has found that the issue lies in the hitbox of the F-35, it is simply too large. This causes it to get hit by the majority of missiles fired at it, which makes maps like Wake Island extremely unbalanced. Ideally, the hitbox of the F-35 should be made much smaller. Its performance should not exceed the F-18’s, but perhaps match the MiG-29.

-If hitboxes cannot be modified, then perhaps making the air-to-air missiles less effective. Not as bad as 1.12’s, but not as good as 1.4’s. The ground-to-air (Stinger, IGLA, Essex) should retain their current effectiveness against air targets.

-Improve the netcode (hit registration). Many compelling videos have been made (search on YouTube for “BF2 hit detection”) that show how bad the hit registration really is. One can experience this first-hand by just going into any BF2 server. The hitboxes should match the models MUCH more closely, rather than trailing behind them.

-Improve the helicopter netcode. A missile going through the front of a helicopter is unacceptable. The hitboxes are very erratic on them. As stated, a missile going through the front will never net a kill, and a missile can go underneath a helicopter and kill it.

-TV missile glitches need to be fixed. For instance, after firing a TV missile and switching to guns, then switching back to the TV Missile, the missile will reload again. This prevents you from firing. Another glitch that happens is the player hears the firing sound, and sometimes even the pilot sees the missile, but no missile is fired and the reload process starts again.

    -Fix the Warlord palace glitch.

-Fix the Wake Island airfield glitch (players can glitch into some of the buildings near the flag)

-Fix the Karkand market glitch (players can glitch into the area near the TOW)

-Fix the hit crosshairs on aircraft HUDs. Currently only the Su-34 has the crosshair.

-Looping sound for weapons is out of sync with the weapon’s fire.

-Sniper rifles, when zoomed in, sometimes zoom right back out. Whether this is poor netcode or just network lag/packet loss is uncertain, but if it’s a game issue it would be nice to have fixed. This also has been reported to be a problem with other scopes/ironsights.

-Fix the CTD issue where when a player picks up a kit, they crash to their desktop.

-Fix multiple server browser issues, such as favorites clearing when pressing “Refresh”, not being able to type into the filters, and bad ping reports (the ludicrous 99823498 “ping”), and the browser taking a very long time to report server info (the entire interface freezes until the server info is retrieved).

-Some players have reported that their sprint immediately empties out upon sprinting.

-Fix the Private bug, where you show up as a private and/or don’t have your unlocks. Whether this is a GameSpy feed issue or a game issue is unknown to us, but if it can be fixed it would be nice.

-Fix the “redlining” problem, where players can hover their chopper gunners out of bounds and have them die. If any passengers in the vehicle are out of bounds, all passengers should be considered out of bounds.

-Let users be able to click on ribbons in BFHQ to see their description. The only way to see the description for a ribbon right now is if it is in the “Recently Earned” section.

-The sound glitch where, if a player near you fires a full auto weapon, the firing sound keeps playing is still present.

-Players report that if a person is sitting in any position other than the driver’s seat in a transport vehicle, the vehicle will not show up on commander scans.

-Defibrillators (shock paddles) do not always recharge right away after many uses.

-If a TOW or AA site is fired (AA sites have both missiles fired), if the user gets out before the site reloads, then the next time someone gets into the site it has to do the reloading sound before firing.

-Jets have buggy laser guided missiles. Sometimes when reloading the 4 missiles, the player cannot switch out of missile view until missiles are reloaded. Other times, the missiles are completely bugged and when a player clicks and hears the sound of the missile firing (they even see the missile), no missile is actually fired. This is usually not fixed unless the player bails out, or the jet is destroyed.

-Server loading screen is still buggy. It usually displays the default settings, and no IP and server name.

-If the Sergeant Major of the Corps is still an included rank, it should be fixed to be given to actual Sergeant Major. The last known SMotC was a person with 170,000 points who had not played since February, and thus never got promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel until he played another round many months after 1.2.

-On the kit selection screen, the unlock selection thing is messed up. The shadow of the next weapon is not accurate. For instance, if your Medic kit currently has the AK-101 chosen, the shadow next to the Weapon Change will show the G36E twice rather than the L85A1, then the G36E.

-Change the RIB so that MEC RIBs have an RPK-74, and PLA RIBs have the Type 95

-Players have reported not receiving the Middle East Service ribbon even though they meet all the criteria.

-MECSF and SEAL ribbons sometimes arrive to players before they have all the hours needed, and sometimes do not arrive until much later.

EA released no incremental patch from 1.4-1.41 forcing people to needlessly download a 550Mb patch for a few changes.

This is a big list of bugs only, not to mention imbalances. BF2 came out almost 2 years ago and has a larger financial backing, larger player base, no single player worth mentioning and you dare compare Relics support for CoH to EA!? CoH is a fairly balanced game taking all into consideration. If two players play, regardless of side, the better player will, in most cases, win. One more fact: EA has announced BF2 will recive no more patches. Patch 1.71 was announced by Relic a few days ago and an expansion with tonnes more features to the engine (which consumers recive for FREE even if they don’t buy OF) and over double the base games content pretty much ensures continued support for, at the very least, another year. 3A 5UX5.

(Bug list was quoted from a BF2 forum & sorry for the long post)

  73. Eerie says:

Well, Bridger, fire up this very video replay review then, and go let’s say to the 45 minute mark (as per the video, not ingame time). You’ll see the armor company badge right under the pershing and crew repair vehicles icon, right to the mp/ammo/fuel stats. It’s quite big πŸ™‚

  74. Spadehead says:

lol Ewy, you’re not wrong, i feel the same way when i hear people talking about bugs in COH, i just think about all the bugs that were in and still are in BF2.

    EA do indeed suck

the ONLY thing that bothers me in coh is before i even start the game, the multiplayer interface.
i hate how it never shows the Ping of any host until you actually join, i have to guess what games are hosted in the UK (which usually isn’t a lot) i end up on a japanese or US server grrr

and hovering over a server to see who’s in the game and what rank they are etc, and the bloody thing refreshes, so i’m all of a sudden hovering over another server grr grr.

Apart from that i don’t notice the in game bugs (i don’t play too often tbh tho so maybe that’s why)

  75. EnglishMuffin says:

I do understand the game industry very well. I know that it is crowded and hard to get into now. A lot of companies need to make money so they pump out game after game hoping that people will buy. There are publishers and developers. THQ is the publisher which gives money to the developer Relic. I know that relic needs to go through THQ in order to get an ‘OK’ to make changes to game play and whatnot. I am happy that relic supports the game with releasing as many patches as they have. I know relic online is new but its as if relic online didn’t do an ounce of research and did no planning for the future. They could have simply copied what blizzard did and everyone would have been happy. The fact that it took so god damn long for relic to figure out that they needed a team to release hot fixes is just ignorant. There were a ton of bugs that took a month to fix. Most of them are gone now. The thing that most companies do is wait for an expansion so that they can make more money and at the same time fix all the problems with the current game. What I love about everyone is that they simply accept this. So you paid for a game where the company that created it had really no plan to support the game properly and hired a terrible balance team and then you have to pay them again for to fix everything that they should have 3 months ago. But every company does this right, its just the way it is, right. Well it doesn’t have to be. Most consumers just buy anything and the game companies rely on this so that they can do shoddy support and still make money in the expansions. Blizzard thinks ahead, Relic does not. If a company does not adequately support a game why reward the company with buying more games from them? This is how EA got so big. Stupid people get dumped on by the support of the games and then they go ahead and buy the next game released. This is how bad companies stay in business. But again, you an always count on enough idiots out there to buy a product to keep a company in business as long as it looks good. I know this is a problem with the game industry in general, but damn, it shouldn’t be this way. There should be a standard of release a good game, support it very well, the consumers are happy and want to buy the next game you release.

Anyway do your rant bridger, if you can teach me something I don’t know then my hat will be off to you.

  76. pHk says:

For the record, Relic uses http://www.quazal.com

  77. bodybag2224 says:

Hay Englishmuffin look. Relic is a small company, I believe that the people that work on COH work on Warhammer and other Relic games. They couldn’t of coppied Blizzard’s because, well that is copyright infringement and not good. Blizzard wasn’t perfect at first but now it is good. Everyone wants things to be perfect immediately and when they aren’t done in 3 seconds that person sucks. All we do is want want want. Just sitback and wait. Arrange Teams are coming with OF and other things we want, it just takes time.

  78. TsN|Bridger says:

It does take time, why? Because they cannot put enough resources on the online components to get it done faster. They simply will not fill up the team with a full team that could bang it out in a month. Why is that? It’s because the game industry is dominated by people who play single player games. We are not the main demographic of gamers. How can THQ justify spending lots of time and resources making the online experience “perfect” when only 10% of the audience uses it? They know they do need at least a *working* online system, and that’s what we have. THQ and relic went father though, they put in automatch and profile systems and have been tweaking the reporting and such to make it better.

But again, they cannot justify taking any more resources off the coding of the next game to fix the current system. It will get fixed, just slower, because there’s less people working on it than there might be. And there’s nothing wrong with that IMHO. I have no counter-argument other than “but i want it!” to justify telling them to “waste” money on us.

  79. RGS says:

For all the gripes and rants and complaining we do, we still play the game eh? It’s like when Bridger attracted all the trolls during his vacation in New Hampshire; if they’re bitching at you it means you’re doing something right.

Look at the flaccidly boring games like SupCom and C&C3. All three sides are the same for both games, with the same inherent strategies dominating the fields as a result (omg spam titan units). CoH has revived my once dying faith in the game industry, proving that innovation still exists and that I can still get excited about playing a video game in a field that’s just filled to the brim with clones, sequels, and craptastic movie tie-in titles.

If I were Relic I would be heartily emboldened by the fact that people like EnglishMuffin have “taken to arms” so fervently over our game.
