Having Problems with the Transition?

August 1, 2007

If you guys would like to see our thoughts on the new changes, or if your having problems with the flash player, see this blog post.

That way i can keep everything in one place, instead of spread out in email/comments here/comments on site/forum posts on 3 sites, etc.

Edit: Full Screen Now Availible! Check out 42a and 42b posts on gamefire.com for links to full screen :)

Tales of Heroes Officially Moved to Gamefire – And other updates

July 31, 2007

So this is one of the last posts you’ll see on this blog here.  Check out www.gamefire.com for all the latest Tales of Heroes updates.  Oh and did i mention that Tales of Heroes Video Replay Review 42a is out?  42b will be out later today and the audio show will also be up later today.

After some discussion we’ve decided to keep the audio show in download and podcast format available to everyone.  It’s not nearly as big as the videos and i’m sure a lot of people would like to listen to it on the road.  So we’ll put up audio show #42 later today in MP3 downloadable form (podcasts links coming soon!).

The player for the video files does have a full screen feature in it, we’re just working on enabling that at the moment, so you’ll be able to watch the shows the same way you always have, except in full high quality :)   If you still have problems with these changes, send me some feedback @ talesof@gamefire.com

Update On This Week’s Shows

July 31, 2007

We got all the recording done for this week done last night, and we’re simply in the process of encoding everything correctly. We now have to go through 2 steps of encoding to get the finished product on the gamefire page, and with 2 video shows this week (w00t!) everything is taking longer than normal.

So here’s the deal. From now on shows will be out on Tuesday for the public (Monday for subscribers). Shows will be available in High Quality for EVERYONE, with the caveat being that non-subscribers will not be able to download them, and will have to watch them in an embedded player that has small unobtrusive advertisements (and i mean you see it for 5 seconds, then it’s gone for the rest of the show). Subscribers will be able to download the show with no ads. Also, ALL the old shows will be available to everyone in this new format.

So, with that having been said, I’m trying to get some part of the shows uploaded today. Oh, and did i mention that gamefire.com is up and is where all the new shows will be? So get over there and check it out! Give us feedback!

David Sirlin’s “Playing to Win” Now Availible For Free!

July 24, 2007

If you recall, we interviewed David Sirlin back in Tales of Heroes 28: Playing to Win.  David’s Book “Playing to Win: Becoming the Champion” is now available in full for free online!  I highly recommend that you check it out and if you like it donate a few bucks or buy yourself a copy of the physical book.  It could really change your whole perspective on competitive gaming.

ToH Video Replay Review 41: Just Toying With Him

July 24, 2007

Here’s the second video replay i promised you to make up for missing week 39. If anything could describe this game it would be unexpected. It is a game between Dave (AKA ConstantlyLAID) and PontificulSwissGuard. It was part of the RepLAID pack that went out last week and we wanted to do a game from it before too many people watched them. Suffice it to say it was not what we thought it would be! Dave seems to be just playing with his opponent, seemingly giving himself a handicap by losing 3 squads early in the game, making a comeback with some excellent grenade work, and, well, it’s a twist ending you might say :P

Check out the video here and the replay here.

ToH Video Replay Review #40: Viewer Submitted #5

July 23, 2007

Another week, another Tales of Heroes! This week we’ve got a long match on rails and metal with massive amounts of artillery and infantry on the allied side facing up against conservative tigers and veteran support units (mortars ftw!). This may be the best since episode 26, you don’t want to miss it :)

So what are you waiting for? Download it now
Also: Get the replay!

Note #1: The upload will not be finished until approximately 1pm EST (about an hour from when this post was made). I have to leave now so i’m posting this before the download is done. If your download is not around 238mb, try redownloading it a little later on.

Note #2: Audio show will be uploaded this evening along with another video replay review (#41) to make up for missing 2 weeks ago.

Note #3: Please be aware that the quality this week will not be the super-high quality that we had last week. That quality is reserved for subscribers as soon as we get the subscription in place. This week’s shows, however, are still in better quality than past ToH shows (you can still read the text of the players chatting, will still look better on bigger screens).

Tales of Heroes 40: Something New

July 17, 2007

It’s official, Tales of Heroes is now a part of the Gamefire Network.  The Flagship production you might say.  Gamefire is a new company born out of the ashes of the former Team Sportscast Network.  Gamefire will be delivering high quality content directed toward gamers.  More shows will be added as the site gets up and running so stay tuned for that!

On to this week’s audio show.  We had quite a bit if news this week along with a brand new Bridger Rant and finally wrapping up with some Q&A theory crafting.

So what are you waiting for?  Download the show now!

Tales of Heroes World in Conflict Contest!

July 17, 2007

Thanks to Vitensby we’ve got another contest for you guys!  Since the World in Conflict beta is now open to all, we don’t have any keys to give away.  Instead we have some special access codes which are available to people who preorder the game.  Basically you’ll have access to the special preorder-only servers that has an extra map for you to try out, and you’ll be able to reserve your name prior to release of the game.

To enter the contest simply send an email to wicbeta@yahoo.com and answer the following questions:

1) What is the best slogan you can think of for Tales of Heroes (or the “Tales of” franchise?)  Example “Tales of Heroes: These guys are leetsause!” or “Tales of: Real Time Strategy Explained.”

2) What are you most looking forward to in World in Conflict?
It’s that simple!  We’ll pick 10 people randomly from the entrants and announce the winners on next week’s show!
